Quarterly, the team at Nunn Design ignores the phone and emails to take time out to create. It is our opportunity to work with the products first hand and to inspire and nurture our own creativity.
This last quarterly Art Day, we mixed things up a bit. We have a new member to the Nunn Design Team; Joe. Joe comes to us as a total newbie to jewelry making, but the guy has got some skills! Joe is a musician, so his fine motor-skills and life of creativity really help him take to the art form with ease.
What we did differently this Art Day is the team all taught “the new kid.” The day before our quarterly Art Day, each team member pulled from a hat one of the Nunn Design Tutorials. It was an “education lottery” amongst the seasoned team members! Everyone had a day to go onto the Nunn Design Website and download the tutorial and to pull all of the supplies that they would need to teach with. This was a real challenge for many of the team members, as they had never taught before and many of the techniques they were doing for the first time themselves. But, I had total faith in each of them! It ended up being REALLY REALLY fun for everyone!
So, let me remind you. These are all samples being created by someone who has never done anything with jewelry making (the new kid-Joe) and being taught by people who hadn’t done the technique before (seasoned Nunn Design Team Members), nor have they taught! I would say that this is an all around amazing display of creativity!!!
Class #1 Colorized Resin in Open Hoops with PearlEx Powder.
The day started off with instructor Cheryl teaching Joe how to mix Nunn Design 2-Part Resin, how to colorize it with Castin’ Craft Opaque Pigments, and how to add PearlEx Powders within a Nunn Design Open Hoop.
Here is the tutorial Cheryl taught with: Colorized Resin in Open Hoops with Mica Powders and Flakes

Class #2 – Texturized Resin in Open Frames
Cheryl wasn’t going to let that excess resin from her first tutorial go to waste, so she jumped on the chance to teach Joe this technique as well!

Class #3 – Nunn Design Resin Drop Pendants using Excess Resin and Gilding Flakes
There was still some mixed resin left in the mixing cup from class 1 & 2, so Melissa stepped in to teach Joe this class! The first step was to just pour the excess resin onto a clear plastic bag and let cure for 5 hours. Later in the day they came back and applied the Gilding Flakes and sculpted them into the Itsy Bottle Tops.

Class #4 – Crystal Clay and Crackled Gilding Flakes
Melissa moved Joe right along with teaching him all about Crystal Clay, a 2-part air dry epoxy clay.
The tutorial Melissa used to teach this class was: Crystal Clay and Crackled Gilding Flake Rings, Earrings and Pendants
There were very few times that I jumped in and added additional tips while the seasoned Nunn Design Team Members were teaching Joe, but I couldn’t resist showing both Melissa and Joe an easy way to have the Crystal Clay cure. We threaded toothpicks through the loops of the Open Back Bezels and placed them in resin mixing cups to hang. This allowed the Crystal Clay to cure without disturbing the shape of the soft clay.

Class #5 – Nunn Design Transfer Sheet with Resin on Flat Tags
Christee was the next to take the reigns. She let Joe select a Nunn Design Transfer Sheet image, the two mixed another batch of Nunn Design 2-Part Resin and they were off creating these lovely pieces.

Class #7 – How to Use Nunn Design Transfer Sheets with Colorized Resin on Flat Tags.
Alright, these aren’t Joe’s samples of this project. Joe actually gave them away to a friend for Christmas! But Christee did teach Joe this technique. He already knew the basics of mixing Nunn Design 2-Part Resin, how to colorize with Castin’ Craft Opaque Pigments and how to use Nunn Design Transfer Sheets. This one was a piece of cake.

Class #8 – How to Use Organics with Nunn Design Resin on Flat Tags
Kathryn stepped up to the plate and taught Joe all about preserving organics and how to use Nunn Design 2-Part Resin on flat tags. Joe actually took these samples home to pour a second coat of resin on the top because his organics were slightly poking out the top. The pieces came out great!
