Artisan Spotlight – Stephanie Gard Buss

Many of you will know Stephanie’s work. She has been on the Nunn Design Innovation Team since 2012 and has had jewelry featured in BeadStyle, Bead Design Studio, Bead It Today, Jewelry Affaire, Belle Amoire Jewelry, Cloth Paper Scissors, Jewelry Making Daily, Bead-Me Magazine. This is quite a ‘rap’ sheet!!!

Stephanie has been a prolific designer for us. She has several tutorials in our gallery as well as numerous pieces of jewelry. Here are some of Stephanie’s latest jewelry creations.

I have this stamp I absolutely love. It’s just rows and rows of script, written in French, in that lovely style of the days when people used pen and ink and took the time to write beautifully. For all I know, it could be a grocery list, but I like to think it tells a romantic story, or is even a letter written to a very dear friend. I’ve often used it for etching on brass or copper, but it occurred to me that it could also be cool stamped with permanent ink on leather, or even metal. When I found the brass monogram stamping, it just seemed to belong.

As I worked, I noticed the stash of channel beads Becky had sent me, and still had some epoxy clay left. “What if I pressed clay onto the bead and then rolled it onto the stamp? Aha!” It needed some highlighting, so out came my favorite art supply—Pearl Ex mica powder, just swiped on with a finger, and it bonds to the clay.

While I was working on that, I noticed some washi tape I had on my desk from another project—also covered in script. Hmm, that seems to fit a channel bead just perfectly…..

It needed some texture and more interest around the bead, so I added a couple of the fantastically textured Nunn jump rings. Noticing that the texture combination of the rings was pretty enough by itself, I looped a bunch together for some quick and jangly earrings.
