8 Things I Love! Volume 5

Welcome to the fifth installment of “Things I Love,” a journey celebrating the magic of creativity! I have grown to love putting together these posts. It is a way for me to communicate that which I am curious about, expressions of creativity that I have fallen in love with, and the big wide world of mystery that is ours to explore.

I hope that you too will enjoy the vast range of topics that I am in love with, and be inspired to watch, read, and observe, alongside of me. Let’s get started!

1. A Podcast I Love: Dr Tara Swart

I have become fascinated with neuroscience. Dr Tara Swart asks great questions about how the brain works. Here are the two podcasts that I have enjoyed the most:

2. A Book I’m Enjoying: Quantum Body

World spiritual leader Deepak Chopra, after returning home from a spiritual pilgrimage, addressed his followers on July of 2023. Chopra publicly committed to focusing his remaining years on one topic, the coming renaissance and reform of spirituality and science.

I think Deepak’s book, Quantum Body, is part of his commitment to his life’s work. Understanding the science has been a bit of a stretch for me (that is why I wrote “enjoying” verses “love”), but I plan to read it several times in hope that some of the information may eventually absorb into my brain!

3. Insights I Love: Astrology with David Pond

I have loved astrology since I was a wee child. I find it so very fascinating, and it constantly makes me ponder a world beyond what I can see and understand. David Pond has been an astrologer for over 40 years.

He offers a free weekly email that I subscribe to (I’m constantly gathering data on the world-so why wouldn’t I include the cosmos!). Here is what he sent to me regarding this coming year, during which we enter the age of Aquarius:

By far the biggest aspect of the week, and indeed this year, is Pluto moving into Aquarius Saturday—ending the dark lord’s 16 year reign in Capricorn. This has been an era where corporations held all the power and ruled the world with the world’s religion becoming consumerism. This shift ushers in the Aquarian 20-year era where power slowly shifts from the government and corporations to the people. Pluto in Aquarius last occurred 1778-1798, the time of the American and French revolutions for freedom from the control of monarchies and claiming power to the people.

What type of revolution are we in store for this time? Certainly, technology will contribute, but the Aquarian call for freedom, individual rights, humanitarian issues, and larger social cultural concerns will be in rebellion to the Capricorn structures and restraints from the past—starting first at the individual, grass roots level.

4. A Movie I Loved: Delicious

I loved this movie so much for so many reasons! It is a story about the alchemy of food and art, love and friendship, trauma and healing, set in the French countryside just before the Revolution. The acting is amazing, the cinematography is enchanting, and the story is rich in history. I’ve watched it twice (it is in French with subtitles. Don’t let that scare you away).

5. I Love Studying Ancient Christianity & Ancient Civilizations

Ancient Christianity and Ancient Civilizations

I used a Steve Job’s quote in last week’s post, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” This inspired me to start studying the topics of ancient Christianity and ancient civilizations. It wasn’t a surprise for me to see both of these covers of National Geographic on the newsstand at the SAME TIME in December of 2023! It is a fascinating topic with lots of opinions and beliefs. I’m not so interested in knowing the exact “truth” or “science” of it all. I’m mostly curious about how the history relates to Western Culture and from where my own lineage originated.

Besides reading National Geographic, here are a couple of other sources I have relied on in my studies:

  • Hillsdale College has free online courses. I enjoyed the series on Ancient Christianity and Dante’s Divine Comedy, but there are so many others on my “I want to watch that” list.
  • Ancient Civilizations is a Gaia series on Amazon. The many perspectives can be challenging to track at times, but it is fascinating to learn what scientists and researchers have discovered recently and how this has changed the thinking regarding the history of ancient civilizations on Earth.

6. Another Podcast I love, created by Josh Schrei: “The Emerald”

Here is what Josh’s bio states on Apple Podcast:

The Emerald explores the human experience through a vibrant lens of myth, story, and imagination. Brought to life through the wise, wild, and humorous vision of Joshua Michael Schrei — a teacher and lifelong student of the cosmologies and mythologies of the world — the podcast draws from a deep well of poetry, lore, and mythos to challenge conventional narratives on politics and public discourse, meditation and mindfulness, art, science, literature, and more. At the heart of the podcast is the premise that the imaginative, poetic, animate heart of human experience — elucidated by so many cultures over so many thousands of years — is missing in modern discourse and is urgently needed at a time when humanity is facing unprecedented problems. The Emerald advocates for an imaginative vision of human life and human discourse as it questions deep underlying assumptions about societal progress.

For those of you that aren’t interested in “out there” concepts or “fringe” beliefs, then this isn’t for you. But I absolutely LOVE this guy. He is such a wonderful storyteller and talks about such interesting topics. Here are a couple of my favorites:

7. Lifestyle Brands I Love

Oh my goodness, there are such beautiful expressions of creativity on Instagram. I have been enjoying following these two brands and really studying how they engage with their followers. Both of them are very inspiring!

Amy, a fashion blogger and the owner of A Fashion Nerd, really celebrates being a mother on her Instagram feed! Her and her husband are expecting their second child and it is so delightful to see a woman fully embracing life as a mother to her 4 year old daughter and experiencing her second pregnancy! It is so beautiful!!!

The Vintagenarian promotes “Vintage Style not Vintage Values.” It is fun to see him celebrating beauty in all forms, from flower arranging to unwrapping a pair of new pajamas!

8. I Love Learning About How Craft Guilds Formed

When I was researching ancient civilizations and Christianity, I stumbled across the history of merchant and craft guilds that flourished in Europe between the 11th and 16th centuries. I love learning and thinking about how we, as makers, are an important part of the economic and social fabric of our era…

That is all for now. Please email me and let me know what you are enjoying! I’d love to know!

Love to you all-
