In between being a mother to 3 small boys Sarah had a moment to write up some responses to our interview questions.

Becky: How do you balance your creative/business/family life?

Sarah: Finding balance is always a difficult task, especially with three very active little boys! But embroidery is the perfect medium for a busy mom, because it is so portable. I can take projects with me anywhere, and I can stitch here and there as time allows.

The best thing I did when starting out was practice. Every day. I stitched whenever I could get my hands on a needle and thread! That’s the advice I would give to any beginners.”

Becky: Have you felt vulnerable in any way, as you have gained more exposure with your embroidery?

Sarah: Definitely! I think it’s only natural to feel a little vulnerable with more and more exposure, but I have been very lucky to receive almost exclusively positive feedback and support from the people who enjoy my work. I’m continually humbled by the kindness and encouragement of my followers

Becky: Do you set creative and business goals for yourself? Could you share one?

Sarah: One of my biggest goals for the near future is to submit some of my embroidery pieces to art galleries for shows.

Becky: Have you had any challenging interactions with customers? What was one of those challenges and how did you deal with it?

Sarah: My customers are incredibly sweet and wonderful, and I’ve been lucky to have very few challenging interactions. But when I have, I made it a point to approach the situation with kindness and understanding.

Becky: Where did you learn embroidery? Do you have any suggestions for those who want to get started?

Sarah: I am self-taught! I grew up using a sewing machine regularly, but I didn’t start experimenting with hand embroidery until 2015. The best thing I did when starting out was practice. Every day. I stitched whenever I could get my hands on a needle and thread! That’s the advice I would give to any beginners.

Becky: Where do you find color inspiration?

Sarah: I’m always looking to nature for inspiration! Flowers, rocks, mountains, grassy fields… color is everywhere!

Becky: How do you market/sell your work?

Sarah: I do most of my marketing on Instagram (@sarahbuckley.art) and my work can be purchased in my Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/SarahBuckleyArt)

Becky: Did you enjoy working with the Nunn Design Jewelry Kits for Embroidery?

Sarah: Yes! I have loved every piece of Nunn Design Jewelry I have worked with! They are easy to assemble and have such a high quality feel to them. Plus, they are so gorgeous!

Be Inspired!

Sarah uses vintage images of National Parks to inspire her mountain scene embroidery pieces. There isn’t a piece in this collection that I’m not totally smitten with!
